Welcome to
Tucson Legs
Vein problems can range from simple
unattractive blemishes to serious limb-threatening ulcerations.
Untreated, these veins may cause serious health issues.
The emphasis at Tucson Legs is the diagnosis and treatment of venous
(vein) diseases. Venous disease include varicose veins, spider veins,
chronic venous insufficiency, deep vein thrombosis (blood clot), and
venous leg ulcers.
Do you suffer from painful legs? Do your
legs feel sore and heavy if you have been on your feet all day? Maybe
you have veins that bulge or look twisted, commonly known as varicose
veins? Perhaps you have sought treatment, but do not want to undergo the
painful surgical procedure known as stripping. Now, as a result of a new
minimally invasive laser treatment for varicose veins known as Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT), you no longer need to suffer.
As well, are your legs plagued with spider veins? Do you not like the
look of your legs due to spider veins? There is help. Tucson Legs
offers a variety of treatments for spider veins including sclerotherapy and
laser. Our vascular surgeons work with you
to provide the right spider vein treatment for your condition.
We offer a free 15 minute initial evaluation to determine your vein
problem. The next visit will be a more comprehensive exam with possibly
ultrasound, to determine the cause of your varicose veins. From this
visit we will determine a course of treatment.
Most insurance plans will cover a medically necessary exam and
treatment.
Vascular Surgeons
Our doctors are vascular surgeons and perform the newest
treatments for varicose veins and spider veins. Whether you suffer from
varicose veins or spider veins our surgeons can discuss your options
regarding laser surgery for varicose vein removal or other treatments
for varicose veins and spider veins. Please review our website for more
information about varicose veins, spider veins, laser surgery, our
doctors and more.
What Are Varicose Veins?
Veins through your body return blood back to your heart. To do this
efficiently veins have one-way valves to prevent blood from flowing
backwards due to gravity. If the valves fail to close properly, blood
will pool in the vein.
Over time, this pooling will force the vein walls outward, resulting in
enlargement and sometimes bulging of the vein giving it a rope-like
appearance. Varicose veins are dilated blood vessels that bulge outward
from the skin. They occur when veins are not properly returning blood
from the lower leg to the heart and can be painful and limit your
ability to be active. They may cause other symptoms such as itching,
burning, pressure and aching that typically worsens toward the end of
the day. When associated with faulty valves, they sometimes lead to
ulceration of the skin and occasional bleeding.

Who Gets Varicose Veins?
You are not alone. Tens of millions of people around the world suffer
from varicose veins with hereditary factors playing an important role in
their development. Women are almost twice as likely to have varicose
veins, however a significant number of men are also affected.
Factors That Contribute To Varicose Veins
Pregnancy, hormone replacement therapy and birth control pills
Professions which require prolonged standing or sitting
Obesity or lack of exercise
Increasing age
What Are The Symptoms?
Varicose veins may only cause cosmetic concerns but sometimes can cause
legs to ache or swell. Your legs may also feel heavy and tired or as
though they are burning. These symptoms may be more severe at the end of
the day or after prolonged sitting or standing. In more severe cases,
varicose veins can lead to skin changes resulting in eczema,
pigmentation, and ulceration or bleeding.
How are varicose veins treated?
Larger varicose veins are treated by a technique called "Stab
Phlebectomy". The veins are simply removed through tiny incisions using
a small hook. Local anesthetic is usually all that is needed. If your
problem is a result of faulty valves in the saphenous vein of the thigh
and calf, then closing that larger deeper vein is required. We use a
simple laser technique called EVLT, Endovenous Laser Therapy.
What is Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT)?
EVLT is a quick, minimally invasive laser procedure that leaves no
scar, has a short and relatively pain-free post-operative recovery
period and is performed under local anesthesia in our office. The treatment itself will take less than one hour and initially
involves both a physical and an ultrasound examination to map the vein
to be treated. Faulty valves in the saphenous vein of the thigh and calf
are often the primary cause of many vein problems. Laser energy shrinks
the vein so that blood cannot flow through it. This eliminates vein
bulging at its source. Blood flow from the faulty vein will naturally
divert to the many normal healthy veins in the leg after the laser
therapy. more info

What are "Spider Veins"?
These tiny purple or red blood vessels seen under the skin are usually
painless, but can be unsightly. Spider veins often are hereditary and
may be found anywhere on the body but most are commonly seen on the legs
from the top of the thighs down to the ankles. Insurance will not cover
the treatment of spider veins.
How are spider veins treated?
Using a very small needle the doctor injects a "sclerosing" chemical
into the dilated blood vessel. The medication causes the walls of the
vein to close up and eventually disappear permanently. A typical session
may consist of multiple injections, last approximately 30 minutes and is
often painless.
